The NCPA is looking to hire trainee violin teachers for its Suzuki Method Method taught to children from the age group of 4-11 years old.
Suzuki Method
The Suzuki Method of string teaching introduces players as young as four-years-old to the basics of string technique, providing a solid foundation for their future musical development. To this end, on the recommendations of Music Director, Marat Bisengaliev, the NCPA’s Suzuki initiative for Violin was set up in the summer of 2008 – for young children in Mumbai. The teaching is undertaken by a number of teachers specifically trained and dedicated to this method. This extraordinary project has exceeded expectations, proving that the models successfully followed in Japan and China are feasible, to an extent, in the Indian context. Our original plans for a pilot project with a few children at the Avabai Petit High School in Bandra, Mumbai, has become a fully fledged educational movement with over 180 children supported by three participating schools, parents and members of the general public. The progress of these children was showcased at a concert at the Tata Theatre on September 19, 2009.
We have initiated plans for a major expansion of the Suzuki project, which in the course of the next year will see an exponential rise in the number of teachers and students. These efforts will go a long way towards building new audiences at the SOI.
