Thursday, 18 June, 2009

NCPA mourns the loss of one of the greatest musicians of our times, Ustad Ali Akbar Khansaheb, who passed away on 18th June 2009 at his home in San Anselmo, California, U.S.A.

As a worthy heir to the musical legacy of Baba Allauddin Khan of Maihar, this legendary sarod maestro inspired, moved and delighted audiences worldwide for over 75 years. His contribution as an ambassador of Indian music in the West, especially in North America, and as a teacher par excellence will remain unmatched for a long time to come.

Over the years, the NCPA has had the privilege of hosting a number of performances of this renowned maestro. We will proudly cherish the memories of his last recital at our Centre (February 2001) and his priceless recordings made for the NCPA archives.
