Documentary, Short and Animation Films

This biennial city event, which began in 1990, has come to be rated high on the world’s documentary film festival circuit -- on par with the likes of the Leipzig or Berlin International Film Festivals.  This edition onwards, some changes have been introduced: the `Competition’ category now covers both International and Indian sections. An award for Best Student Film/Video has been introduced as also the Dr. V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award, which includes a cash award and trophy.  The prize money in each category has been increased.

‘Retrospectives and Special Packages’ will include jury’s retrospectives, Oscar-nominated films, films on cinema legends and unsung heroes of the Indian freedom movement. The ‘Country Focus’ will have films from Bhutan, France and Chile. A ‘Students’ Package’ from the Film and Television Institute of India, the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, National Institute of Design and the North East are some of the items on the list.
