Hark by Kaishiki Nrityabhasa & Still I Rise by Vidhya Subramanian

Hark is an exploration of new dimensions in dance-theatre. It tells the story of a mother, her two daughters and two daughters-in-law. One by one, in the span of a year, fate turns these five happily married women into five grieving widows. Have these women lost just their husbands? Or have they lost something more? Hark is an artistic attempt to shine a spotlight on their lives.

Still I Rise is a solo work by Vidhya Subramanian incorporating neo classical Bharatanatyam and spoken word. Draupadi may have been saved by Krishna from public shaming, but beyond that her sense of self was constantly challenged. This dance-theatre piece interprets the pivotal episodes in her life seen from a first person perspective. There is no Krishna to save today’s woman, nor is there a need for Krishna to be the savior. Set to original music, incorporating world poetry, it uses the take off points in mythology to transcend into the imaginary, to build a bridge between myth and life.
