Ghan Garaje: Monsoon Melodies
by Manjusha Patil Kulkarni
Sunday, June 18
Godrej Dance Theatre, 10.30 am

The advent of the rainy season is richly celebrated in Hindustani music. Ragas of the Malhar family and myriad genres of semi-classical music like thumri and dadra are inseparably associated with this season. Several allied folk forms like kajri, sawan, jhoola, hindola express the pain of separation and the joy of union with the beloved in the month of Sawan.

After having trained for many years under stalwarts like Chintubua Mhaiskar and D. V. Kane, Manjusha is presently under the tutelage of Ulhas Kashalkar and Vikas Kashalkar. With an extensive training from maestros of several gharanas, she has an eclectic approach of her own. An ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio, her repertoire includes khayal, thumri, bhajan and natyageet.

In this recital, Manjusha Patil will present a range of classical and semi-classical compositions to usher in the lively season of the rains.

Box office opens on June 5 (for members) & June 8 (for public)
