Shombit Sengupta, founder, Shining Consulting, presents the creative efforts of managers and CEOs, who were taken by surprise when confronted by a bag of paints, brushes and canvas and were urged to use them. In Sengupta’s reckoning, a CEO’s abilities to paint are no less than an artist’s: a CEO carries ‘a high value management palette’ in his mind. “There is no shareholder, promoter, employee or competitor scrutiny…You have total liberty of expression,” he told them. The CEOs understood the analogy instantly, perceiving no real difference between the management and colour palettes – and got to work like professionals. From the works it seemed to Sengupta that all CEOs have an artistic streak that contributes to their success; that they need a diverting outlet that’s out-of-the-box; and an opportunity of this kind that would help bring about a difference, however intangible, to what they do.
