With Janmashtami approaching, we present Shyam Rang, a two-day festival of light music celebrating the legend of Krishna, ‘the dark one’. Indian music has a treasure of compositions, the textual content of which is dedicated to the exploits of Krishna – the cowherd and prankster – the amorous games with milkmaids, as also the spiritual and philosophical thoughts associated with his divine love.
5th August – Sanjeev Abhyankar
Trained by Mewati gharana stalwart Pt. Jasraj, Sanjeev Abhyankar will explore the theme of Krishna through the traditional repertoire of pads, bhajans and allied songs, from the literature of saint-poets of the Vaishnav and Bhakti sects.
6th August – Kaushiki Chakraborty Desikan
Daughter and disciple of Ajoy Chakraborty of Patiala gharana, Kaushiki will present a special selection of khayal, thumri, bandish ki thumri, dadra and kajri compositions associated with Krishna that are notable for their literary content and poignant devotional flavour.
