The Symphony Orchestra of India is back... this time with its Eighth Celebrity Concert Season, presenting a ‘romantic’ repertoire this February.
At the second concert, we are joined by Evgeny Bushkov who also makes his debut in India as a guest conductor. As in every season, works are carefully chosen which will not only allow the orchestra to shine brightly, but also stretch its potential. It is through this process that we have made rapid progress. One such piece is Rimsky-Korsakov’s much celebrated work — Scheherazade. This colourful tone poem – a recounting of four tales fromthe fabled 1,001 Nights will shimmer as it recounts its tales of passion and daring. The second half of the concert will feature Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2. This romantic work needs no introductions, to either those who have heard it before, or to those who will hear it for the first time. The raw impulse and beauty of the music is the same – time and again. This timeless favourite is sure to please – as will Jania Aubakirova, as pianist, who has made a specialty of this piece.
