Screening of Bandish 2012 performance of ‘Girija Devi’

Girija Devi (1929 -2017) was of the most celebrated female vocalists of our times. In this concert we pay a tribute to the inimitable doyenne of Banaras gharana with a screening of her performance rendered during NCPA’s annual festival of Legendary Indian Composers-Bandish (July 8, 2012).

The performance showcases some compositions (khayal, thumri, dadra, tappa and jhoola) in ragas Bageshri, Khambavati, Mishra Khamaj, Tilang and Bhairavi, composed by celebrated composers, Shyamcharan Mishra (Shyamdas), Shambhunath Mishra (Nath Piya) and Shori Miyan.

We will also present a short interview (2012) where she expresses her views on various aspects of music.

Admission on a first-come-first-served basis. NCPA members will get preferential seating till 6.20 pm.
