Festival Details

Shiv Kumar Sharma (santoor) & Rahul Sharma (santoor)

Supported by Yogesh Samsi (tabla) & Mukundraj Deo (tabla)

Santoor is inseparably associated with Shiv Kumar Sharma, a living legend of Indian music. Modifications made to the instrument with respect to its physical structure and the innovative performance techniques developed by him, have given the instrument its unique ‘voice’ and idiom. Such path-breaking efforts have helped the santoor acquire a position on par with other string instruments in contemporary Indian art music. Having emerged as one of the most promising santoor players of his generation, Rahul Sharma, son and disciple of Shiv Kumar Sharma, is an icon of the youth today. His cross-cultural international collaborations with world-renowned artistes like the highest selling French pianist Richard Clayderman and such others have opened new avenues to connect the younger audiences with their roots. The father-son duo will perform a duet (samvad) on santoor to showcase the vitality of the guru-shishya tradition.
