Anekā…Identities dancing within. Lost in her world, battling her different personas – this Kathak dance-drama brings you the story of the Courtesan, Anekā. A contemporary expression set in the Mughal era, ‘Anekā’ is an original story of a courtesan with Dissociative Identity Disorder. The one-and-a-half hour show is an insight into Anekā’s life as she struggles to remain her true self and battles with her alters. This production explores the themes of conflicting personalities, self-doubt, patriarchy, love, and social support as Anekā becomes more understanding of her disorder. This production is choreographed, conceptualized, and curated by Team Anekā.

Team Anekā consists of Kathak dancers who have been trained for over a decade under Guru Pali Chandra at Shree Gurukul Studios. As young dancers, we have completed vocational training and received the ISTD Dance Diploma. Our team members, who are students studying in different parts of the world including Canada, the US, Australia, the Netherlands, India, and the UAE, have performed globally. We have showcased our talent at prestigious venues such as the Swiss International Kathak Festival (Switzerland), The House of Lords and Nehru Centre (UK), Alliance Française (India), ISKCON Temple (Belgium), Dubai Duty-Free, TEDx, and the Indian Consulate (UAE). We also had the honor of performing at Marhaba Namo as the opening act for PM Narendra Modi’s grand reception in the UAE. With over 50 performances, numerous competition wins, and acclaim from renowned artists, including sharing the stage with the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj ji, we aim to present a one-of-a-kind Kathak production in India. After five successful shows in Dubai in 2021 and 2023, we decided to bring Anekā to India.
