Jewels is unique threeact ballet created for the New York City Ballet by co-founder and founding choreographer George Balanchine.Each section of the ballet is distinct in both music and mood. Emeralds, which Balanchine considered, “an evocation of French elegance, comfort, dress and perfume,” recalls the 19th century dances of the French romantics. Jewels consists of three parts – green (emeralds), red (rubies) and white (diamonds) which signify the music by Faure, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky respectively.
