The world of Indian music is rich with diverse traditions, forms and genres; from primitive to folk, devotional, classical (art), popular, and contemporary. Each of these expressions has well-defined aesthetic norms and idioms that shape the musical identity of this subcontinent. It is uncommon to find musicians with expertise that spans across several of these genres. Only well-trained and creative musicians, with diverse exposure like Priyanka Barve, can even dream of exploring the depths of Indian music!
Born in a musical family, Priyanka was trained in classical music by her grandmother, the veteran vocalist, Malti Pande Barve. As a playback singer, she has sung in various Indian languages including Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Marwari and other regional languages. However, she has been most active as an actor-singer in the Marathi film and entertainment industry. Having won several prominent awards and accolades, Priyanka is best known for her role as Anarkali in a musical play based on the iconic film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, which is running even today.
Priyanka Barve will present a bouquet of forms, from thumri, ghazal, natyageet, lavani to popular songs from Bollywood.
