A musical on Hariprasad Chaurasia’s life-story and contribution to Indian cinema

An NCPA Presentation in collaboration with Vrindaban Gurukul & Eastern Harmony

CSR Partner: Jefferies

For the last six decades and more, the name of Hariprasad Chaurasia has been inseparably associated with the Indian bamboo flute (bansuri). The internationally acclaimed flautist has, with his innovative techniques, lent a new sound to the instrument.

Bansuri Jab Gaane Lage is a celebration of the legendary maestro’s musical journey, both personal and professional. This musical portrays various events: his departure from Allahabad, his stint in AIR in Cuttack, his transfer to Mumbai, his initial struggles, his break in Hindi films, followed by his collaborations with the leading music directors of that time, his contributions as a musician to some blockbusting songs of Hindi films, his collaboration with his long-time friend and partner, Shiv Kumar Sharma, the renowned santoor player, his foray into classical music, his stint as a disciple of the legendary Annapurna Devi, his various international accomplishments and milestones in the world of music and his awards on national and international platforms.

The dramatised narrative is punctuated with live music and songs from films which the maestro has himself played or for which he has composed the score. The films include: Amar Prem, Taj Mahal, Guide, Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe and more.
