An Introduction to Theatre (Not just Acting)

“Theatre is an art of execution, not intention — and this workshop is built the same way.”

Between the Lines is a basic theatre workshop designed for beginners and early practitioners who want to understand how theatre works.

How We Work (Execution Over Explanation)

This workshop is designed as a working rehearsal, not a lecture.

  • Exercises are simple, repeatable, and practical
  • Instructions are minimal; correction happens through doing
  • Scenes are built, broken, and rebuilt
  • Mistakes are not discussed — they are used

Participants will work with:

  • Presence before performance — learning how to occupy space without set.
  • Power before emotion — understanding what a scene is negotiating, not what it is “feeling.”
  • Silence as action — treating pauses, stillness, and listening as dramatic tools.
  • Humour through restraint — discovering comedy by removing effort, not
  • adding it.

In practice, performance breakdowns are rarely linked to talent. It more often stems from an actor’s inability to distinguish between expressive intent and actionable behaviour within a scene.

This workshop is an attempt to slow things down.

To look at:

  • Why a pause exists.
  • Why is a line spoken now and not later.
  • Why humour lands only when you stop chasing it.

About the Conductor:

Ankit Gor

“Art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.”
This belief is not just a quote Ankit admires—it is the core philosophy that defines his life and work. Through his art, Ankit consistently nudges people out of their comfort zones, urging them to question, reflect, and feel deeply. At the same time, art remains his personal refuge, a space where he finds meaning, balance, and solace. A well-known name in Ahmedabad’s theatre and film circuit, Ankit is a director, actor, writer, and published author whose journey with the stage began in childhood. However, it was during his college years that he truly discovered the transformative power of performance. That realization shaped his path and led him to dedicate his life to storytelling—across mediums, forms, and formats. Over the years, Ankit has received multiple awards for his contributions to Gujarati films and television. Driven by a desire to create honest and thought-provoking narratives, he founded ANTICLOCK THEATRE LLP, under which he developed acclaimed plays such as Pythagoras, In Between, and 3 Men.

Beyond creating work, Ankit has also shaped platforms for others. He served as the Theatre Curator for the second and third editions of the Abhivyakti City Arts Project. His recent projects include Udan Chhoo (film, writer), Santa Kukadi (web show), and the theatre productions In Between and 3 Men.
