An NCPA Presentation

Nayantara Parpia is a well-known Kathak dancer, born and raised in Pune, and currently based in Singapore. She is fortunate to have been trained under two senior gurus of the Lucknow gharana of Kathak, Smt. Yogini Gandhi, and late Pt. Birju Maharajji. Nayantara has performed both as a soloist as well as with her troupe in multiple prestigious venues around India, as well as in Singapore and the UK. She has been awarded the title of ‘Nritya Shree’ by the Utkal Yuva Sanskrutik Sangh at the Cuttack Mahotsav (recognized by UNESCO). Nayantara is deeply passionate about teaching and works with students from age 6 to Masters level, and adults of all ages around the world. She founded the Tridhaara Institute of Kathak, where students receive not only specialised training in classical Kathak, but also a holistic education in music, physical fitness and other allied arts through innovative techniques and creative collaborations. For the premier of “Janani – The Mother”, she has been mentored by Guru Smt. Parwati Dutta.

“Jananī – The Mother”
The word “mother” takes our minds towards a range of thoughts. The purest form of Love… Devotion… Abundance… Nurturing… Sacrifice… Self-Doubt… Transformation… Home.
Through this thematic Kathak presentation, inspired by mythological tales and personal experiences, the artiste explores the various connotations of the unrivalled force of nature – Motherhood.

Parvathy Menon is one of the most authentic and traditional representatives of the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam. Menon’s art embodies the highest qualities of restraint, aesthetic refinement and a technique that is both evocative and spiritual in its interpretation. She has consciously shunned needless theatrics and communication methods which are not in consonance with the enshrined principles of this great art form.

Shijith Nambiar is an internationally acclaimed performer, choreographer and teacher of Bharatanatyam. A former faculty member at the world-famous Kalakshetra foundation for the performing arts, Nambiar has established an independent creative identity based on his artistic versatility. His exceptional sense of music and rhythm exemplifies his choreographic skills with unique traditional innovations.

Partners in life and onstage, Nambiar and Menon have been ambassadors of Bharatanatyam for two decades. They are the recipients of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Bharat Kala Rathna by Navaneetham Cultural Trust, and Outstanding Dancers for 2023 from the Madras Music Academy, to name a few.

DHI  – Our Thoughts
Every thought born from one’s mind starts to slowly breathe and find its journey. Every pulsating thought passionately expands into layers and layers of various forms and varied hues. Unfolding and unfurling into blissful dreams, our thoughts are tha which create our magical world.
