Nrithyodaya, Chennai, will present Padma Vibhushan Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam’s ‘Bhagavad Gita’ (solo Bharatanrityam recital), with live orchestra by Dr. Gayatri Kannan (Nattuvangam & Vocal), Smt. Mahati Kannan (Vocal), Sri. Sarvesh Karthick (Mridangam), Sri. Kannan Balakrishnan (Veena & Suddha Maddalam) and Kum. Shreelakshmi Bhat (Violin).

Bhagavad Gita is a solo dance production conceived, compiled, choreographed, and presented by Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, fulfilling her long-cherished aspiration to interpret the essence of the Gita through classical dance. This production marks a major artistic milestone in making abstract spiritual concepts accessible through dance. Presented in the Bhanika style, a one-woman theatrical format blending mono-acting technique, the recital features four thematic sequences capturing the core teachings of all eighteen chapters. Of the Gita’s 700 verses, 78 original Sanskrit shlokas have been selected, with translations serving as performance commentary. The aim is to communicate the Gita’s profound wisdom in a manner that is both aesthetically engaging and intellectually clear.
