Gujarati Play

Bombay Flower blooms from the hidden corners of history, presenting a compelling tale of passion, rebellion and controversy. Set against the backdrop of a nation trembling on the brink of partition, the play unveils the daring story of Ruttie Petit, the fiercely independent daughter of a privileged Parsi household. Born into luxury, adored and protected, Ruttie chose the unthinkable—love over lineage and defiance over decorum. At 18, she stunned society by marrying the era’s most divisive political figure—Muhammad Ali Jinnah. More than two decades older than her, Jinnah was a charismatic man who would go on to become the founder and first governor-general
of Pakistan.

Why would Ruttie risk everything for a man whose political aspirations overshadowed their romance? What drove her to defy family, faith and tradition, and step into the uncertain embrace of an entirely different world?

Bombay Flower explores how her bold decisions turned admiration into exile and ultimately how her passion spiralled tragically out of control. Beyond a tale of forbidden romance, the play paints a vibrant yet troubled portrait of a nation on the verge of division.
