Prominent among the various initiatives undertaken by Citi and the NCPA are two schemes: Support to Gurus and Scholarships to Young Musicians. These programmes are in the field of Hindustani vocal (dhrupad and khayal) and instrumental music (melody and percussion instruments). This series is launched to showcase the beneficiaries of the above schemes. In this event, first, there will be a dhrupad recital by Chintan Upadhyay followed by khayal recital by Prajakta Marathe Bicholkar. Upadhyay trains with dhrupad maestro Uday Bhawalkar. He holds a master’s degree in music, and has been awarded the Junior Research Fellowship for Dhrupad studies in 2014. Bicholkar is the grand-daughter of the legendary classical singer Ram Marathe and the daughter of Sanjay Ram Marathe. She began her musical training at the age of three under her father, and has also taken lessons from Jyoti Kale. She is the recipient of the CITI-NCPA scholarship 2017-18.
