Hindustani Music Recital
(approx. 120 mins)
In collaboration with Saroj Jhaveri Foundation
The Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, is one of the most popular traditions associated with khayal music. The style is marked by a well-structured raga-architecture balanced with rhythm and tempo (laya-tala), and lyrics (sahitya) in measured proportion. One of the main features of Jaipur gharana is its unusual repertoire of jod (compound) ragas and not so often heard complex (anvat) ragas. Its majestic style is also known for off-beat taan patterns (melodic runs) and use of innovative melodic flourishes to conclude the individual cycle of improvisation.
Initially trained by Narayanrao Datar,
Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande was groomed in the Jaipur-Atrauli style by her mother, Manik Bhide, and Ratnakar Pai. She is known for her effortless exposition of ragas with pleasing tonal quality and aesthetic appeal.
In this recital, she will present a typical Jaipur gharana mehfil of traditional ragas and bandishes.
