An NCPA Presentation in association with Jasubhai Foundation and Kilachand Foundation

Gujarat is rich in its literary, musical and folk traditions. The devotional songs of 15th-century poet-saint Narsinh Mehta and 16th-century mystic Meerabai are enshrined in the collective consciousness of the people of this region. Poets like Dayaram (1777-1853) bring in romantic lyricism. The ras-garbas of Nhanalal (1877-1946) were a craze during his lifetime. Kalapi (1874-1900) was among the early ghazal writers. Meghani (1896-1947) brought in the folk flavour.

This concert presents some of Gujarat’s evergreen songs. The selection highlights their variety and undiminished popularity. Singer-actors Utkarsh Mazumdar and Hetal Modi will present a song from juni rangbhumi with abhinaya. Capturing the timeless melodies are Amar Bhatt, Gargi Vora, Upagna Pandya and Praher Vora.
