Venkatesh Kumar has trained with Puttaraj Gawayi, who was a stalwart of both Kirana and Gwalior gharanas, as well as a reputed scholar. He has also been influenced by the music of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, the eminent doyen of Patiala gharana. Endowed with a powerful and sonorous voice, his repertoire straddles compositions of both Kirana and Gwalior gharanas, with an aesthetic build-up through permutations and combinations of notes, extensive ornamentation, Sargam, and attractive taan patterns.
Kumar will present a typical Hindustani music recital including bada khayal, chhota khayal, and Tarana in ragas that are typically favoured by the followers of the two gharanas.
An NCPA Presentation in association with Saroj Jhaveri Foundation.
