An NCPA Presentation

Malavika Sarukkai has trained in Bharatanatyam with Kalyanasundaram, S. K. Rajarathnam and Kalanidhi Narayanan and has been performing for more than five decades. She is also proficient in Odissi which she learnt from Kelucharan Mohapatra and Ramani Ranjan Jena. Sarukkai has performed at major dance festivals in India and abroad. She is a recipient of senior fellowships and production grants from the Department of Culture, Government of India, for creating new work and extending the repertoire. She has choreographed and performed solo thematic productions and has received several awards, notably the Padma Shri, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Kalaimamani, Nrithya Choodamani (Sree Krishna Gana Sabha), the Mrinalini Sarabhai Award and the Raza Award for the Arts, among others.

In Search presents choreographies in the language of classical dance that dare us to experience a love that is intense and ephemeral. Ancient myths re-enter our world as we inquire what it is to ‘see’. Despite the diminishing presence of sacred spaces, the deep calling of the spirit rises through dance in our fragile, disharmonious world.
