The Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Mumbai is pleased to announce its upcoming concert with IDR (Italian Doc Remix)

IDR presents its new album Pandemonium, focused on the crossover between Italian folkloric/early music sources fused with jazz, improvisation and rock, all blended in a Downtown New York sound.

IDR (Italian Doc Remix) has carved out a unique musical niche on NYC’s Downtown scene since 2004. Founded by guitarist/composer Marco Cappelli and percussionist Jim Pugliese, IDR offers a musical experience that reconnects contemporary American life to the traditional roots of the Italian identity. Southern Italian melodies meet jazz, rock and improvisation; tarantella, pizzica and tammurriata mixed and mashed with blues and hip hop are infused with a new global reach, and they echo the new and the old world they evoke bringing them both to a next level.

IDR is vocalist Francesco Pellegrino, guitarist composer Marco Cappelli, clarinetist Doug Wieselman, trombonist Roberto Schiano, contrabassist Ken Filiano, and drummer Jim Pugliese. The group made its debut at NYC’s Issue Project Room back in 2004. After connecting with the finest of New York’s Downtown Improvisers, Marco Cappelli organized an all-star ensemble to produce the group’s critically-acclaimed 2008 debut, which featured Marc Ribot and DJ Logic. IDR returned strong in 2022 with a new album, refreshed line up, and six-city North American tour. The album, Pandemonium, takes their project to the next level with the addition of a half-dozen of Southern Italy’s finest musicians. Pandemonium was recorded in Italy during IDR’s 2019 residence at the Pomigliano Jazz Festival — one of the most prestigious festivals in the South of Italy.
