JAYA, an English-language rock musical based on the Mahabharata, is produced and directed by the acclaimed theatre director Lillete Dubey and presents the major events of our favourite epic in an exciting, contemporary and visually stunning manner.

The lights are by the globally renowned designer of Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, Lynne Fernandez; sets by the skilled Fali Unwalla and costumes by the London-trained Pallavi Patel. The lead roles will be played by singer-musician-actor Sherrin Varghese, founding member of A Band of Boys; Megan Murray, a musical theatre actress who has lent vocals to Grammy-nominated blues queen Shemekia Copeland’s album Done Come Too Far; and 2Blue, a rocker who has performed with Iron Maiden and Guns N’ Roses, among others. The cast also includes Vikrant Chaturvedi, a veteran of the stage and screen, and the multi-talented Asif Ali Beg from the web series Trial by Fire and Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story. The production will feature vocalists Keshia B, Sid Makkar, Varun Narayan, Ujjayinee Roy and Danny Sura. The production features an original score by the multi-dimensional musician, arranger and composer Ashutosh Phatak, with lyrics by Sandeep Kanjilal and choreographed Kalaripayattu sequences by the Kalari guru Arpit Singh and Kathak by Pooja Pant.

JAYA uses a dramatic montage style to present the main events of the epic through the eyes of Yudhishthira, the eldest of the Pandava brothers, holding up for examination his experiments with truth against Duryodhana’s faith in victory at any cost and Karna’s fatalism. A universal tale brought alive for the 21st century.
