Kala Ramnath, violin
Hindustani Music Recital
An NCPA Presentation
Adopted from the West, first into the fold of Carnatic and then into Hindustani music tradition, the violin has risen as a solo instrument capable of rendering all the nuances of Indian music. Born into a family of prodigious talent, Kala Ramnath first trained with her eminent grandfather, A. Narayan Iyer. Later, mentored by the legendary vocalist, Pandit Jasraj, she went on to reach great heights with a Grammy nomination for her album Miles from India. Having collaborated with some of the great artistes across the world, she has the rare honour of being recognised as one of the 50 best instrumentalists of the world by Songline magazine. In this recital, Ramnath will present a violin solo in Hindustani style.
