An NCPA Presentation in association with Kilachand Foundation

Hindustani or north Indian music is known for varieties of ragas that are based on a single parent raga. Some such groups of ragas are Bhairav, Bilawal, Todi, Malhar and Kanada. The varieties of Raga Kanada include Darbari, Adana, Suha, Sughrai, Nayaki, Shahana, etc. There are also compound ragas which combine with the Kanada element (ang), like Basanti Kanada, Gunji Kanada, Raisa Kanada and Mudriki Kanada.

Ulhas Kashalkar has had the privilege of training with reputed vocalists including his father N. D. Kashalkar, and Ram Marathe and Gajananrao Joshi. Endowed with a mellifluous voice and command over a wide repertoire of well-known and rare ragas, his music reflects a harmonious blend of Gwalior, Agra and Jaipur traditions. He is regarded as a top-ranking performer and a senior guru, mentoring several promising young artistes.

In this recital, Kashalkar will present select varieties of Kanada.

Box Office: 26th October for Members & 29th October for Public.
