A Marathi play reading
Katesavar is a heartwarming tale set in Mograi, a tribal village with a 350-year-old tradition of Bohada, a unique dance form celebrating tribal deities through performances. The Bohada is divided into two parts: the Simple Bohada, showcasing traditional performances, and the Prestigious Bohada, introducing new, unique heroic figures and demons each year. Dantya Baba, an elderly craftsman, is responsible for creating masks and preserving ancient epic stories for prestigious performances.
Dantya dreams of seeing his grandson, Garudya, perform as a heroic figure in the Prestigious Bohada. Despite his aspirations, Garudya is disinterested, and the Bohada organizers subtly prevent his participation. When the village runs out of new stories for the Prestigious Bohada, Dantya is pressured to share the special epic he has saved for his grandson.
Will Dantya sacrifice his dream to preserve the tradition? Will Garudya honor his grandfather’s legacy? Katesavar explores themes of tradition, legacy, and intergenerational bonds.
