An NCPA Presentation

Dheerendra Tiwari received his training under the tutelage of Rajendra Gangani, a renowned Kathak maestro of the Jaipur gharana. As a regular student of Kathak Kendra, Tiwari completed the diploma courses and topped his institute. He has worked under many great gurus and leading choreographers like Geetanjali Lal, Aditi Mangaldas, Leela Samson, Saroja Vaidhyanathan and Kumudini Lakhia. Tiwari worked as a senior repertory member and rehearsal director for Drishtikon Dance Foundation – The Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company, apart from working as a rehearsal director for Aakash Odedra Dance Company (UK). He has given many remarkable solo performances in prestigious festivals in India and abroad, including Khajuraho Festival, Kathak Mahotsav, Darbar Festival, and Edinburgh International Dance Festival, to name a few.

The presentation will begin with ‘Vinayak’, an invocation to the god of wisdom and auspicious beginnings, Lord Ganesha. Vinayak is composed from the essence of dhrupad and is based on Tala Dhamar. It is written and composed by Rajendra Gangani and choreographed by Tiwari. This will be followed by ‘Trievat’, a vibrant composition based on the technical aspects of Kathak.

Chitra Dalvi has been training in the Thanjavur tradition of Bharatanatyam, for the last 26 years, under the able guidance of eminent Bharatanatyam exponent and scholar, Sandhya Purecha. She has participated both nationally and internationally in several group performances in leading festivals and events organised by the Indian embassy. Currently, Dalvi is an Assistant Professor at the Bharata College of Fine Arts & Culture and a Senior Instructor at Kala Paricchaya. She has completed her Master of Arts in Dance – Bharatanatyam and is also a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance – Kathak, and Bachelor of Arts – Sanskrit. She is the recipient of the National Scholarship for young dancers in the field of Bharatanatyam awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.

Avadhaan is a Bharatanatyam recital that presents the idea of seeking Liberation through Devotion.
One seeks the path towards the ultimate goal that is moksha through various mediums. The one being presented today is devotion through dance. A dancer devotes her entire being to ultimately become one with the Supreme. This arduous process involves a superior level of tapas and mental and physical control over oneself to overcome any hurdles that one might have to face. However this is not a one man’s feat, the guidance and infinite knowledge of your Guru can ease the process and make it possible. The dancer goes through extreme penance in order to completely surrender herself to her art and eventually, to the supreme.
In this Margam, Guru Dr Sandhya Purecha has  choreographed  compositions that will be presented in different Indian  languages written by various saints in the devotion of the gods in order to represent the diversity and inclusiveness of the Indian culture.
