Folk Dances of Maharashtra curated by Bhushan Korgaonkar

An NCPA Presentation

Lok Gatha, initiated by the NCPA, serves as a platform dedicated to promoting and preserving tribal and folk traditions and rituals. Renowned artiste Bhushan Korgaonkar will showcase an evening of Lavani Ke Rang.

The show celebrates the vibrant colours of life through diverse live Lavani performances by traditional Sangeet Bari artists, challenging the modern-day portrayal of Lavani as merely fast-paced item numbers. It provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of matriarchal community performers, narrated through the perspective of a veteran Lavani theatre malkin, portrayed by actor Geetanjali Kulkarni. Featuring award-winning artists like Sangeet Natak Academy recipient Shakuntalabai Nagarkar, the production is a tribute to the resilience and artistry of Lavani women. Dialogues are in Hindi, with songs in Marathi and Hindi.
