On the occasion of International women’s day the Austrian Cultural Forum of Austrian Embassy, New Delhi presents MEHRUNISA.

This screening aims to constitute a meaningful Austrian–Indian cultural initiative and a valuable contribution to International Women’s Day 2026.

MEHRUNISA

Hindi with English subtitles

MEHRUNISA is the story of an 80 year old woman in Lucknow (North India) who ventures to finally remove her late husband’s dominance from her life in her own eccentric way, stirring up the deep rooted male dominance of the Indian film industry, thus becoming a role model for millions of women across the country.

MEHRUNISA marked Farrukh Jaffar’s first leading role at the age of 88 – a fact that poignantly mirrors the film’s own narrative and highlights the enduring struggle of older Indian actresses to be cast in leading roles.

Writer & Director: Sandeep Kumar
