He is the disciple and son of the legendary dance guru, K. Kalyanasundaram Pillai and nephew of K. Mahalingam Pillai. A seventh-generation artiste, he is one of the directors of Sri Rajarajeswari Bharatha Natya Kala Mandir, an institution founded in 1945 by A. T. Govindraj Pillai, assisted by his wife Karunambal. Harikrishna K. has a distinct approach to shaping new classical repertoire and has created several new compositions for dance which have been showcased by artistes in India and abroad.

Gopika Varma is a Mohiniattam artiste and disciple of Girija and Chandrika Kurup, both senior students of Kalyanikutty Amma. She later specialised in the form under the guidance of Kalyanikutty Amma and her daughter Sreedevi Rajan.
