Kathak by Aditi Mangaldas and Odissi by Nrityagram
Dance Performance

Aditi Mangaldas is a leading dancer and choreographer in the classical Indian dance form of Kathak. With extensive training under the leading gurus of Kathak, Kumudini Lakhia and Birju Maharaj, Mangaldas is recognised for her artistry, technique, eloquence and characteristic energy that mark every performance. Celebrated around the world for the startling richness and intricacy of her dance and choreography, she was recently nominated in the category of Outstanding Performance (Classical) by the National Dance Critics Circle Awards 2017 in the UK. She was awarded the Gujarat Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2007, and the National Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2013, that due to compelling reasons, she declined. The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble is a space where dancers, musicians and choreographers live together for years, developing their ideas, perfecting their technique and complementing their learning with knowledge of mythology and the epics, Sanskrit, yoga, meditation and martial arts. With exceptional synchronicity, compelling physicality and emotional honesty, the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble has earned national and international acclaim for its ability to redefine both dance and theatre, to create and communicate with powerful imagery and captivating dance. Surupa Sen was the first student at Nrityagram, where she began her Odissi training with the late body language genius and architect of Odissi, Kelucharan Mohapatra. Attracted to choreography from her first exposure to dance, she has worked with dancers and choreographers from across the globe. For over two decades, Sen has worked with Bijayini Satpathy to research and expand the dance vocabulary of Odissi dance and together they have developed a style that distinguishes the dancers of the Nrityagram School.
