The Italian Job (1969)

Film Screening

NCPA in association with Film Heritage Foundation under license from Jonetsu Entertainment (India)

The Italian Job (1969) is a classic British caper film that blends crime, comedy, and thrilling car chases into a stylish heist story. Directed by Peter Collinson, it follows Charlie Croker (Michael Caine), a recently released convict who takes on an audacious plan to steal $4 million in gold bullion from under the noses of the Italian authorities and the Mafia in Turin. With the help of computer expert Professor Peach (Benny Hill) and a gang of eccentric accomplices, Croker engineers a traffic jam that allows the team to make their getaway in three iconic red, white, and blue Mini Coopers.

The film features an ensemble cast including Raf Vallone as the formidable Mafia boss, Tony Beckley and Rossano Brazzi in key roles, and Margaret Blye as Croker’s glamorous love interest. Its mix of witty British humor, swinging-’60s style, and daring stunts made it an enduring favorite. The legendary chase sequence through Turin’s streets, sewers, and rooftops, performed with remarkable precision, has become one of cinema’s most memorable set-pieces.

The Italian Job remains a benchmark in heist films, celebrated for its charm, ingenuity, and unmistakable cool.
