Moving away from myth and lyric, motivational speaker and cancer survivor, Padma Shri Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant in Navarasa – Expressions of Life uses abstraction as a way to explore human experience and emotion, stringing together the nine emotions of life through the mnemonics of music and rhythm, along with facial expressions. Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi exponent, Jayant will also be presenting Simhanandini – one of the most captivating and distinct features of Kuchipudi dance. A unique opportunity to witness this rare traditional item in which Jayant, while demonstrating complicated calculations of the Kuchipudi repertoire, will simultaneously make a drawing of a lion, the vehicle of Goddess Durga, with her feet. The drawing emerges as she moves on a white cloth, over a carpet of coloured powder on the floor.
