Mendelssohn: Concerto for violin, piano & strings in D minor, MWV 04
Marat Bisengaliev, violin
Roberto Prosseda, piano
Internationally-renowned violinist & founding Music Director of the SOI, Marat Bisengaliev opened the twenty-seventh season of the SOI along with the Italian piano virtuoso Roberto Prosseda, playing the violin & piano concert by Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn, although he was only 38 when he died, managed to distinguish himself as one of the first significant Romantic composers of the 1800’s. Mendelssohn wrote his Violin and Piano Concerto in D minor for himself at the keyboard and his violin instructor and friend Eduard Rietz. In 1998 Bisengaliev’s recording of the Mendelssohn Concertos (Northern Sinfonia) became Gramophone Critic’s Choice of the Year, while in 2014 Prosseda, a noted Mendelssohn specialist, completed his 10-year project of recording all of Mendelssohn’s piano works for Decca in 9 CDs.
Seven students of the SOI Music Academy joined the orchestra in the performance.
This event was staged at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre on 11th September 2019
