A renowned Kathak dancer trained in the Jaipur Gharana, Pt. Rajendra Gangani is the disciple and son of Pt. Kundanlal Gangani. An accomplished musician, composer of tunes, he also has a rare mastery over the Tabla, Harmonium, and Pakhawaj. He has won numerous accolades and awards including the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sangeet Raj, and Shastriya Natya Shiromani award. Gangani holds a post-Diploma from the Kathak Kendra, Delhi and has been associated with them as a Senior Guru. He is an empanelled member of the ICCR and has choreographed and presented several group compositions and dance dramas both in India and abroad.
About NCPA Dance Residency by Pt. Rajendra Gangani
This three-day Dance Residency by Kathak exponent, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, will focus on the intricacies of demonstrating the ‘veer ras’ (regal personalities of royalty and warriors). Students of Kathak will delve deeper into complex taals like chautaal or dhamar along with learning an abhinay piece like ‘chaturang’ comprising sahitya (poetry or literature), tarana (syllables set in fast speed), sargam (musical notes set in rhythm), and the nritta bols (words set to movement).
