Round Midnight Orchestra (8:00 pm)

Don’t flirt, don’t drink, brush your shoes and keep playing: those were the golden rules for musicians in the New York jazz clubs in the twenties and thirties. Hardly anybody followed the rules, but that didn’t matter. While alcohol was forbidden the nightlife flourished like never before. A club was considered good only if they had a good jazz band on stage.

Jazz music was the most important side issue in life. Jazz functioned as a combination of art, an outlet to protest, an outing of nightlife and as entertainment, which caused the success of this exciting new musical style. It gave birth to very important orchestras like the orchestras of Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington and characteristic musicians like Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller who were embraced by the audience.

The Round Midnight Orchestra is one of Europe’s hottest bands of the moment in which you will experience the exciting nightlife in the renowned clubs around Broadway, New York, during the golden era of jazz. The band consists of some of the most established musicians in Dutch jazz, mixed up with some of Holland’s greatest young jazz talents. The band will take you back to the heyday of jazz, a vibrant world full of thrilling music and compelling stories about love, desire, joy and despair. With this magnificent show you can enjoy some hard-swinging jazz classics, meet the historical jazz figures and feel how vivid and urgent this music still is today.
