Umang is a platform for promising artistes. This month, we present two classical duets – Manipuri by Sudip Kumar Ghosh & Kathak by Sourav Roy and Kathak by Harshada Jambekar & Sanika Prabhu.

Sudip Kumar Ghosh is a promising talent in Manipuri dance, championing impactful initiatives in the promotion and preservation of Indian classical dance. Born iSingha Ghosh pursued his passion independently under Guru Smt. Laxmi Singha and overcame many challenges before moving to Kolkata and then New Delhi to advance his training under esteemed gurus including K. Jatin Singh, and . He has organized numerous workshops and festivals, to make dance accessible to a wider audience. As the Secretary of Katchaba, a forum for Manipuri art and culture, he continues to lead initiatives that enrich the cultural landscape. He is a graded artiste of Doordarshan and recipient of the Nrutya Kumudini, National Nritya Mani, and the International Academy (USA State Music Academy) awards among others. Currently, Sudip teaches in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kerala.

Kathak artiste Sourav Roy has been trained by Shri Goutam Sengupta, currently he is under the tutelage of Kathak exponent Guru Dr. Malabika Mitra for more than two decades. Roy has further enriched his art and craft through workshops by eminent Gurus including Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Pt. Vijay Shankar, and Smt. Kumudini Lakhia. His efforts have earned him success and fame in the field of Kathak both in India and abroad. Sourav has received the senior national scholarship from the Dept. of Culture and Tourism, Govt. of India, is an empanelled artiest of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) and an “A” grade artiste of Doordarshan Kolkata.

Harshada Jambekar is a seasoned Kathak performer and the disciple of Gurus Dr. Manjiri Deo, Taalmani Pt. Mukundraj Deo, and Pt. Vasantrao Ghadge. Jambekar has completed her Kathak Nritya Alankar from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and has performed at numerous dance and cultural festivals in India and abroad. She is a Nritya Nipuna awardee from Nalanda Dance Research Center and an “A” grade Doordarshan artiste. Harshada is the Founder Director of ‘Katthakii’, a Kathak institute in Mumbai as well as an accredited examiner for Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.

Kathak artiste Sanika Prabhu is a disciple of Kathak gurus Pt. Vasantrao Ghadge, Taalmani Pt. Mukundraj Deo and Harshada Jambekar and has completed her Nritya Visharad. She is the Founder of KathakBeats Edutainment teaching Kathak globally through online and offline mediums. She has a recipient of the “Nritya-Pratibha” at the 9th Cuttack International Dance Festival, Odisha. Currently, she is associated with the Salaam Bombay Foundation and Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics as Kathak Dance faculty.
