Ever the diplomat, the Sakhi is wise and well intentioned, merging into the nayika’s shadow at certain times and challenging her at others. The most influential character in a piece, the Sakhi, plays a pivotal role as confidante, caregiver, messenger and catalyst. Celebrating the Sakhi through various compositions, in a traditional Bharatanatyam repertoire, the performance seeks to push the silent shadow into the spotlight for one evening.
