Urmika Maibam, being the granddaughter of renowned of Late Guru Shri Ngangom Jogendra Singh, an eminent exponent of Manorshai and Niece of Two renowned personalities, namely Late Shri Birjit Ngangom  and Shri Sonar Chand Ngangom (International Choreographer and Thang Taa exponent). She grown up in the surrounding of artistic background since early age and started learning Manipuri Dance at a very young age. She received Smt. Usha Devi Gold Medal for securing highest mark  in the Department of Dance, Manipur University and she also received Maisnam (Ongbi) Ibetombi Devi Memorial Gold Medal for securing highest mark in School of Humanities, Manipur University. She had completed 9 years courses in the field of Manipuri Dance from Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal and awarded Merit Scholarship during her studying. She has completed P.G. in Choreography under the guidance of (Late) Dr. Maya Rao from Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography affiliated to Bangalore University and she is also an “A” Grade Manipuri Dance Artiste approved by DDK New Delhi. She is a Young Talent Award Recipient of both State Kala Akademi, Government of Manipur and Ministry of Culture, Government of India as well. She has completed her Ph.D. in Performing Art and has been awarded Junior Fellowship in the field of Manipuri Dance from Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), Government of India. Presently, she is working as Faculty in Department of Dance, Manipur University of Culture, Imphal since 2018.

Mithun Shyam, the founder – director of Vaishnavi Natyashala, Bangalore is a well-established bharatanatyam dancer and renowned dance Guru. He is one of the primary students of Bharata Shikharam Guru Padmini Ramachandran.With over 24 years of experience as a teacher, he has produced several accomplished dancers who have been awarded and recognized by the State Government and several cultural associations across the country.  Mithun and his team has been integral in performances for delegates from Germany, Korea, Japan, International Badminton athletic meet and hundreds of other prestigious events.

His solo thematic productions like “Sudarshanam”, “Purushantaragatah” which deals with gender fluidity as well as his upcoming project titled “Manah” which discusses the importance and significance of mental health has proven his versatality in utilizing this ancient art form to project current social challenges.

Recognizing his unique style and talent, Mithun Shyam has been chosen to be a part of the productions of veteran actress Padmashri Hemamaliniji and also Padmashri Ananda Shankar Jayanth. He has played the lead roles with these legendary artistes. Mithun Shyam had the rare opportunity of performing with both Hemamaliniji as well as her daughter, well known actress of Dhoom fame, Esha Deol.

Apart from being an ‘A’ graded artist of Doordarshan and an empanelled artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relations,  Mithun Shyam has travelled across the globe taking the culture and traditions of the ancient art form of Bharatanatyam as an ambassador of our country’s rich heritage. He has been recognized with several awards including the prestigious “Natyakalaa Kesari”, “Kala Rathna” and “Yuvakala Prathibha”, for his contributions to the art arena..
