NCPA@thePark, presented by Westside, is back for Season 4 and it’s bigger and better! Enjoy an exciting variety of live performances across 4 parks around the city.

Join us at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Park, Hiranandani Powai on 15th March 6:30 pm onwards for an exciting evening of Dance and Indian Music.

Gotipua – Precursor to Odissi dance – 06:30 pm

Gotipua, the precursor to Odissi dance, is performed by boys dressed as females. The term “Gotipua” in Odia means “one boy.” These dancers undergo rigorous training under their guru, mastering intricate acrobatic (bandha) postures through intense body bending and twisting. Historically, Orissa’s temples had female devadasi dancers devoted to Jagannath, as seen in temple sculptures. With the decline of mahari dancers in the 16th century under Rama Chandra Dev, boys continued the tradition. Though rooted in Odissi, Gotipua differs in technique, costumes, and presentation. Experience the grace and acrobatics of Gotipua by Guru Bijay Kumar Sahoo & Nakshyatra Gurukul Trust

Abhanga Repost – 07:45 pm

Abhanga Repost will perform popular abhangas and bharuds penned by saints like Eknath, Namdev, Dnyaneshwar and more, in their original form as well as the contemporary version!

Mainly associated with a particular sect (varkari) of wandering minstrels, abhanga is an integral part of the complex world of Indian music. Abhanga Repost is a Mumbai-based contemporary folk-rock band, which strives to revive abhanga by presenting its traditional Marathi song-text using contemporary musical styles like fusion, pop, rock and reggae. During the past decade, the band has presented over 700 live events including two international tours. Having gained immense popularity in the Marathi Indie scene, they are slowly finding their way into the mainstream Indie scene.
