Celebrated dancer and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Sujata Mohapatra is known for her unique artistry and adherence to Kelucharan Mohapatra’s style of Odissi. Known for her distinctive balance of power and grace, Mohapatra is one of the few Indian exponents who has been regarded as “one of the great dancers of our time” by Alastair Macaulay of The New York Times. She is the daughter-in-law and disciple of Kelucharan Mohapatra and will be presenting some of his iconic choreographies. Shila Mehta is a distinguished Kathak exponent with a Masters in Dance (Gold Medalist) and choreographer recognised for innovative presentations with the established traditions. One of the leading exponents of Lucknow gharana of Kathak, Mehta has the privilege of being the shagird of Vijay Shankar and Birju Maharaj. This is not only a dance production but a raging social comment in the contemporary context. The choreography aims to give voice to the most common issue of gender bias existing all over the world. It is also to challenge that section of the society that is prejudiced against the third gender. We all know that the soul has no gender. Gender comes from flesh. The concept, script & choreography of Nimitta is by Padma Bhushan Kanak Rele.
