An NCPA Library Presentation

“Dive into the world of words and imagination with our captivating book reading session!”

What happens when a hardened criminal, burdened by guilt but unbroken in spirit, reclaims his life after 34 years in prison? Meet John “Sweets” Russo, once the left-hand man of Toronto’s notorious Vallery gang, now a 75-year-old aspiring singer with an extraordinary dream.

Penned by acclaimed author Jasveer Singh Dangi and conceptualised by Sonu Anand—dialogue coach of the much-celebrated film Laapta Ladies (this year’s Oscar entry from India)—this event is a mesmerising blend of book reading, performance, and music.

Explore themes of redemption, resilience, and identity as John navigates society’s judgment and his own quest for purpose. This coming-of-age tale also shines a light on the struggles of immigrant children caught between cultures.

Join us for an unforgettable evening where words, emotions, and melodies collide, celebrating the power of second chances!

Entry free on a first-come-first-served basis.
