An NCPA Library Presentation

Antaray, written by Pratima Kulkarni, unfolds in western Maharashtra between 1950 and 1985, tracing the emotionally charged journey of Yashwant Bhosale and Devyani Patwardhan, two childhood friends shaped by contrasting worlds. Yashwant, grounded in a family of freedom fighters and nation-builders, embodies discipline, purpose and unwavering ideals. Devyani, born into a once-elite but fractured household, is artistic, impulsive, sensitive and profoundly lonely. Yashwant becomes her emotional anchor, the only person she can confide in. Yet societal boundaries, especially caste and rigid social expectations, prevent them from having a lasting relationship. A brief, scandalous encounter marks a turning point that leaves Devyani deeply scarred and alters both their lives. Through decades of intimate conversations, Antaray becomes a moving exploration of love restrained by society.

The reading will be in Marathi, presented by Akshay Shimpi, a versatile theatre actor and storyteller and Sharvari Patankar, a noted actress known for her impactful performances.
