Draupadi: Past, Present, Future by eminent playwright, theatre director, actor and novelist Ashok Samel is not merely a retelling of the Mahabharata, but a profound exploration of womanhood across time. Draupadi emerges as Agnishikha and Yajnaseni, proud, fearless, intellectually sharp and uncompromising in the face of injustice. Moving fluidly between the past, the present and the future, the narrative draws powerful parallels between Draupadi’s life and the lived realities of women today. Her many roles—partner, friend, nurturer, rebel and seeker of justice—are portrayed in a lucid, compelling voice. Interwoven contemporary stories reinforce the idea that every woman carries Draupadi’s spirit within her.

This Marathi literary work (published by Dimple Publication) will be presented as a dramatised reading by actor Sangram Samel, bringing intensity, emotion and resonance to the text.
