Poetry Presentation conceptualised by Dr. Omkar Bhatkar

An NCPA Library Presentation in collaboration with Metamorphosis Theatre and Films

Sacred Voices from The West is a poetic journey, blending handpicked verses from saints, martyrs and modern poets into a captivating 70-minute stage presentation. Through the divine lens of Catholicism, St. Francis celebrates nature, St. Thomas Aquinas expresses ecstatic love and Meister Eckhart’s humour enlightens spiritual freedom. The sensual verse of St. Teresa of Ávila, the healing mysticism of St. John of the Cross and the trials of Joan of Arc reveal powerful reflections of faith. Contemporary voices like Maya Angelou, Karin Boye, Wallace Stevens and Alicia Ostriker contribute modern spiritual insights. This dream-like rendition merges poetry with the art of Western masters such as Caravaggio, Rubens and Michelangelo, creating a visual and auditory exploration of spirituality.

Conceptualised by Dr. Omkar Bhatkar, Artistic Director of Metamorphosis Theatre and Films, Sacred Voices from The West combines theatre, dance, film and poetry to create a multi-genre aesthetic. Drawing from philosophical works like Christian Wiman’s Once in the West, Rilke’s Book of Hours and Daniel Landinsky’s Love Poems from God, the performance offers a contemplative experience.
