An NCPA Presentation

Initiated into music by his father, Prabhakar Kale, and Uttam Agnihotri, Rajaram alias Raja Kale’s music was shaped by his legendary mentor, Jitendra Abhisheki. He also received guidance from veteran musicians like C. P. Rele and Balasaheb Poonchwale. Besides being an able performer and guru, Raja Kale holds a Ph.D. degree on the subject of ‘Importance of Bandish in Khayal’. His music reflects a confluence of three traditions: Agra, Gwalior and Jaipur. It is marked by an open-throated articulation and textural sophistication imbued with a rich emotional appeal. His repertoire ranges from khayal, tarana, thumri to hori, tappa, bhajan, bhavgeet and natyageet. In this recital, Kale will showcase his eclectic approach to build-up in khayal vocalism.
