Documentary Film Screening

An NCPA Presentation in collaboration with Cinema Collective

The Reality Check film series promotes and encourages documentary filmmakers in India whose work reflects life and culture in the country today in a thoughtful blend of creativity and integrity.

What If I Tell You
Hindi, Punjabi Film with English Subtitles (52mins)

What If I Tell You is a personal documentary film wherein a breast cancer survivor, who is asked to be silent about her medical condition for the fear of being gossiped about, turns? a filmmaker. She wants to understand the social consequences of surviving breast cancer. Why do her parents and other people around her never utter the words? She starts filming prospective life partners to know what men think of her when they learn that she is a survivor and if it affects their decision.

The personal becomes political in all ways. Candid conversations between the filmmaker, her family and prospective men from different towns of India lead to realisations of perceived gender roles and inequality. The documentary also offers a window to her inner world as she comes to terms with her body while learning to love herself.
