Documentary Film Screenings

An NCPA Presentation in collaboration with Cinema Collective

The Reality Check film series promotes and encourages documentary filmmakers in India, whose work reflects life and culture in the country today in a thoughtful blend of creativity and integrity.

The Human Factor

English with Subtitles (75 mins)

Vintage Hindi film songs are an indispensable part of South Asian popular culture. The onscreen actors who mimed through these songs, the singers, the composers, the songwriters, they are all household names, and many have attained legendary status. But who were those uncredited musicians who made up the orchestras that played these iconic songs and background scores?

The Human Factor tells the fascinating story of the Lords; a Parsi family of pioneering musicians who collectively worked for over 60 years in Bombay’s film orchestras. But the story of the Lords is not theirs alone. It is also a crucial but obscure chapter in the history of Indian cinema.

Director: Rudradeep Bhattacharjee

The screening will be followed by a O&A session.

Entry free on a first-come-first-served basis. NCPA Members will get preferential seating till 6.20 pm.
